Professor Dr. Michael Wohlgemuth is director of the European think tank Open Europe Berlin. He has an MA in economics from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität, Freiburg, a Ph.D. from Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, and a second Ph.D, from the Private Witten/Herdecke University. Wohlgemuth is also Professor of Political Economy at Witten/Herdecke University; Affiliated Fellow at the Walter Eucken Institute, Freiburg; tutor at the post-graduate programme ‘Social Market Economy’ of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation; Associate Fellow at the Ratio Institute, Stockholm; member of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation.
His major fields of research are in New Institutional Economics, Economic Theories of Politics (Public Choice Theory), Theories of economic systems, Evolutionary Economics, Social and Legal Philosophy and History of Ideas.
These have applications mainly concerning European governance and integration, institutions and processes of democratic governance, globalization and inter-jurisdictional competition, public opinion formation and political leadership and political reform.
Wohlgemuth writes extensively on these subjects and comments in newspapers, magazines, university publications and blogs on economic issues as well as editing numerous books.
